Ugh, it’s been almost a whole month since my last entry, but I’m not gonna beat myself up too badly over it.  After all, it’s been pretty busy around here.  The pigs and sheep have all gone to slaughter (a little early if you ask me), and the older batch of chickens are also sitting in the freezer.  Those we killed and dressed ourselves.  As for the garden… well the rain and japanese beetles pretty much destroyed it.  If I had been a little more motivated I could have probably tried to intervene, but it was raining and rain makes for good sleeping weather, so I stayed in bed instead.  Speaking of that, tonight is my 4th to last night shift at The Big ED.  I have definitely enjoyed my time there, but I can’t wait to get back onto some sort of normal schedule again.  This whole staying-up-days-without-sleep thing is wearing on me.  I’m also looking forward to a commute that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.  This week I have 3 interviews, and each job is very different from the other.  Wish me luck!

Oh, and even though the rain caused most of my tomatoes to fall and rot, I was able to gather enough up to freeze for sauces… here’s proof of my tomato blanching, skinning, seeding, and freezing adventure.  (I’ve never done it before but I googled how-to)

Another rainy day but I don’t mind it.  Despite the past week of rain, we still need it.  The grass is finally starting to green up again, and I don’t have to worry about hooking the sprinkler up for the garden.  The pigs love the rain, their whole pen is a gigantic mudpit that they’ve been rooting up and rolling around in.  The sheep and chickens are another matter.  Even though they have shelter to escape the rain, they still end up wet and raggedy looking.  The chickens have made their way up to the house, having found the bird feeders.  They’ve taken over the driveway, which now makes walking out to the truck an exercise in poo-dodging.

Today I’ll catch up on indoor chores and maybe run a few errands.  I have a small list going, and hope to cross them all off today.  I work all weekend, which means I’ll be useless from Friday afternoon until Monday evening.  I don’t ever want to work nights again.  Too much time is lost to being tired.
